Telefónica 5G: Segovia AR Experience
The project proposes a case study to apply 5G technology into tourism. The city of Segovia is chosen to this end, where through the use of an augmented reality application for smartphone devices and AR glasses, the user can relive historical moments in the life of the Catholic Monarchs, superimposed on the modern physical space.
Among the historical moments represented in the application, visitors can visualise the meeting between Isabel de Castilla and her brother King Enrique in the Alcázar; Isabel’s proclamation as queen following the death of her brother; the swearing of the Jurisdictions by Fernando el Católico upon his arrival in the city, a scene which is especially special; the reconstruction of the San Martin Gate, which no longer exists and which can be seen and transited thanks to the AR; the supervision by the Catholic Monarchs of the restoration works of the city’s Aqueduct; the view of a section of the underground aqueduct as it passes through the Plaza Mayor of Segovia and finally, a photocall with AR, where users can take a photo with each historical character.
In addition to these recreations, you can access other relevant information about the city as well as guide users to the different points of interest where the most important events in the city took place.
This type of application will serve to enrich the visit by superimposing layers of relevant information on the modern city in real time and at the user’s request. All this in a multi-user way so that visitors can share this information and contribute their point of view. Each user will be able to do his/her bit to the creation of an interconnected global knowledge that will help improve life and the way they interact.
